1. How did you end up being a creative?

Britanny Looi's artwork

I think I've always been a creative person. As a kid, I was chronically online and discovered Facebook image-editing apps. I spent hours making random edits like comics, collages, and funny pictures of myself to share with my friends after school. After school, I'd always be putting something together for my profile. Even if my posts got zero likes, I didn't really care. I loved the process of creating something new from things I found on the internet. Looking back, those little edits were my first creative outlet, and they made me realise that creating things genuinely made me happy. That passion naturally grew into the career I have today.

2. What's your favourite piece of work in your portfolio?

CelcomDigi "Which Speedster Are You?" Banner

My favourite piece in my portfolio is a microsite I worked on for CelcomDigi called 'Which Speedster Are You?' It challenged me to think beyond just visual design. I learned a lot about AI, personalisation, and how to create a more engaging user experience. I also had an amazing time working with the team throughout the project. It holds a special place in my heart because it's the first project I've worked on that went on to win awards. It reminded me that great work comes from both creativity and collaboration.

3. What's your favourite piece of work created by someone else?

Arcane poster

'Arcane' is one of my favourite pieces of creative work because of how its visual direction, storytelling, and audience experience all work together so seamlessly. What I find really interesting, from a design perspective, is how intentional everything is. The visual style isn’t just aesthetic. It actively supports the storytelling and shapes the emotional tone of each scene, almost like visual communication on its own. It made me realise how design isn’t just about making something look good, but about guiding the audience without needing to explain everything directly. That’s also how I think about design in my own work, which is to create experiences where visuals and meaning are tightly connected.

4. What/who are your key creative influences?

Music is probably my biggest creative influence, especially K-pop. I love seeing how different groups approach branding, merchandising, album design, and promotional campaigns. The level of creativity and attention to detail is something I really admire.

I'm also constantly inspired by the fan community. So many K-pop fans are incredibly talented designers and video editors, creating concepts, graphics, and edits that could be professional work. Seeing their creativity motivates me to keep learning, experimenting, and pushing my own work further.

5. What's the craziest thing you've ever done?

I pierced my nose with a sewing needle and a pen cap. The needle got stuck, and I didn’t end up with a nose piercing.

6. Do you have any secret or odd talents?

I can move one eyeball without moving the other one, and close one eye like a broken porcelain doll. I think it’s scary for some people.

7. What's on your bucket list?

I want to see the aurora borealis at least once in my life. Something about it feels unreal, like it doesn’t belong to this world, but I still want to be there when it happens.

8. Who’s on your dream dinner guest list (alive or dead)?

Ariana Grande, and probably a random ancestor from my family. It would be interesting to have a conversation with them about how the world was back then, and how the family is the way it is now.

9. What advice would you give to 10-year-old you, if you could?

I hope she continues to stay true to herself, and I'd tell her that the world isn’t going to end in 2012.

10. What really motivates you?

The people around me motivate me the most. Their stories inspire me, and I often look up to them as role models and not just creatively, but also in how they lead, communicate, and support others. They've shaped the kind of leader, listener, and creative I want to become. Their encouragement also means a lot to me. Knowing that the people I respect believe in me gives me the confidence to keep creating and doing my best.

11. How would your co-workers describe you?

They’d say that I would always back people up if they needed help.
